The Dutch-flagged vessel ‘Citadel’ remains aground in the mouth of the rio Guadalquiver after unsuccessful attempts by tugs from the port of Sevilla to free it from the sludge in the area.
The vessel is now awaiting the arrival of a more powerful tug. The ‘Citadel’, carrying compost fertiliser, is stable and there is no danger of pollution or capsizing.
It is thought that fog caused the 111 metre long vessel to run aground.
