National Police officers have arrested two people, a father and daughter, for alleged fraud after they operated as insurance brokers in Antequera, Málaga province, but failed to pass on client money to the insurance company.
The fraud came to light when one of the clients contacted their insurance company but were told that their policy had been cancelled due to non-payment. The insurance company said they had sent notification to this effect.
The client stated that no notification had been received and further investigation led to the discovery that the notification was sent to the address of the insurance broker.
Police went to the address of the brokerage company but found it closed and with a ‘for rent’ sign. The perpetrators of the alleged fraud, a father and daughter, were eventually located and arrested. One was apprehended at Málaga airport.
It is thought that there could be more victims of the scam.
