An 11-year.old girl died on Wednesday after a poorly secured swing at a playground in Rivas Vaciamadrid, Madrid, collapsed.
The child suffered a severe blow to the head during the accident and medics were unable to do anything to save her life.
The swing, located in the plaza de Rafael Alberti, had apparently been repaired six months ago and, according to the Council, the playground facilities were reviewed last Thursday and no deficiencies were found in any of the devices.
However, it is reported that the swing was neither screwed down nor fixed in concrete but was poorly placed on the sand.
The girl had stopped off at the park on her way to school, as she often did. Her friend suffered minor leg injuries in the incident.
