The premiere of Mario Gas’s recent staging of Julius Caesar was punctuated by a chorus of catcalls for Education and Culture Minister José Ignacio Wert, and at the Forqué awards ceremony, a precursor to the Goyas, he was again roundly booed. No surprise, therefore, that the Minister has cited a ‘scheduling conflict’ as his reason for not attending tonight’s Goya awards ceremony.
The 28th edition of the Goyas will be the first to take place without a Minister of Culture in attendance.
Wert also gave the Gaudí Awards for Catalan cinema a wide berth on February 3rd. The Minister is not a popular figure in cultural circles.
