The International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach has criticised UK Prime Minister David Cameron for not attending the Winter Olympics, reportedly describing it as a ‘missed opportunity’.
One would imagine that there would have been far more criticism if David Cameron had gone swanning off to the Olympics while large numbers of UK residents have swans at their front doors due to the terrible floods.
Cameron is not the only prominent world leader absent from Sochi, US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel also choosing not to attend.
It is actually unusual for a British prime minister to attend a Winter Games, but some senior IOC officials believe Cameron should have come to Sochi given that London staged the 2012 Olympics.
One doubts Tzar Vladimir will lose any sleep over it. If it had annoyed him he would probably have turned the gas off by now.
