Flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia has died at the age off 66 years following a heart attack whilst on a beach in Cancún, Mexico, with his son.
Paco de Lucia collaborated with many artists over the years including Ricardo Modrego, Larry Coryell, Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, Bryan Adams and, above all, with Camarón de la Isla, with whom he recorded ten albums.
During his long career, Paco de Lucia received numerous awards, such as the Premio Nacional de Guitarra de Arte Flamenco, the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes (1992), the Distinción Honorífica de los Premios de la Música (2002), the Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Artes (2004). He had an honorary doctorate from the University of Cádiz and in 2010 became the first Spanish artist to be honoured by the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
