The weather had looked a little ominous on Saturday morning, with light rain and cool winds, but it cleared and stayed fine for the annual Carnival procession through the streets of the town.
This was the thirtieth edition of the Nerja Carnival, a celebration banned in much of Spain under the Franco dictatorship but revived when democracy was restored.
This year, special recognition was given to Damian Bueno, the man in charge of the organisation, management and coordination of the Nerja Carnival during the past thirty years. Damian Bueno also delivered the opening speech, pregón, at the first Nerja Carnival thirty years ago.
