The Ministry of Public Works has reportedly approved a government request to rename Madrid Barajas Airport in honour of former Prime Minister Adolfo Suárez, who died on Sunday after a long illness.
According to the Ministry, Adolfo Suárez played a vital role in the history of Spain as he led the country in the transition from dictatorship to democracy.
If the renaming goes ahead, Suárez will become the second Spaniard to give his name to an airport. In 2006, the Granada-Jaén airport was renamed Federico García Lorca Airport after the poet who was executed in the Spanish Civil War.
