Barcelona have been given a 14-month transfer ban by Fifa for breaking the rules relating to the signing of international players under the age of 18 years.
The Catalan club will not be able to buy new players until the summer of 2015 after the world governing body imposed a ban covering the next two transfer windows. They have also been fined 450,000 Swiss Francs.
The ban follows the scandal surrounding the transfer of Brazilian star Neymar and with both Puyol and Valdes leaving the club in the summer, it will stop the club splashing out on replacements.
There are strict rules relating to the signing of international players under the age of 18 years and Barcelona are said to have breached these rules in relation to several, unnamed, players.
