A middle-aged man died on Wednesday afternoon after being subdued and arrested by seven Mossos d’Esquadra officers in Plaza Molina, Barcelona.
The incident began at a local bakery when staff called the police to report that one of their customers was in an excited state and was bothering other customers.
Two officers arrived on the scene and when they asked the man for identification he became agitated and hostile, according to the police.
The two officers called for backup and finally, the seven assembled officers managed to subdue the man and put him in handcuffs. Once handcuffed, the man apparently felt unwell and medics were summoned.
The man was taken to the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona where he died.An internal affairs investigation has already begun to analyse the actions of the seven officers.
