Four adults died and two children were injured on Saturday evening after their car overturned near the town of Albalote.
The accident occurred at km 112 of the A-44 as the car was leaving the highway, the vehicle hitting the central barrier and a drainage pipe before flipping over. The impact was so violent that the engine filled the interior of the car and it took eight firemen to remove the bodies from the wreckage.
A boy and girl, children of the woman who was driving the vehicle, were seriously injured in the crash and are now recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery. Those who died were the driver of the car, a 35-year-old woman, her 37-year-old boyfriend and her parents, aged 64 and 66 years.
Police have opened an investigation to determine the exact causes of the incident.
