A court in Sevilla has issued a search and detain order against the former mayor of La Algaba, José Luis Vega, who was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for bribery and corruption.
The former mayor failed to report to the prison voluntarily to begin his sentence, therefore the court has requested the Guardia Civil to find and arrest him.
Vwga was mayor of L Algaba, Sevilla, between 2003 and 2009 and the company Arcopro were building houses in an area known as Hoyo Barrero. Unable to obtain licences of first occupation, the company approached the mayor and on July 16th 2008 these were ‘unexpectedly’ issued, despite adverse legal reports relating to the development.
The shift in policy occurred after Vega asked the company for €60,000 in exchange for the licences. The request was later reduced to €30,000 and the licences were subsequently granted without financial recompense after he became suspicious that some of his conversations were being recorded.
And some people still wonder why politicians are held in such low esteem
