Saturday May 3rd is the Day of the Cross – Dia de la Cruz – and all the details have now been finalised. The poster for the event has been prepared by José Miguel Ortuño and the municipal cross is being prepared by the Pro-Cofradía de Jesús Cautivo and the Abanico de ilusiones choir.
Events around the municipal cross begin at 18:00 and there will be performances by Abanico de Ilusiones, Arena y Sal, Con Otro Aire, El Sarao, Coros y Danzas de Nerja y Maro and the Grupo Flamenco La Soleá.
The prize for best cross and surrounds will be €500, with a second prize of €350 and a third prize of €250. Prizes for children’s crosses, sponsored by the Nerja Lions Club, will be €200, €100 and €80.
The prizes for arropia, cakes made with honey, will be €200, €100 and €80. A officially registered crosses are eligible for a subsidy of €100 (adult) or €30 (children’s). The Council will publish a map showing the locations of all the officially registered crosses and this will be available at the Tourist Office, Citizens Services Office and the Nerja Cultural Centre.
There will be 12 crosses in 2014: Calle San Miguel in Maro (2 crosses), calle Jorge Guillén (next to block 10) in the Barriada de los Poetas, residence of the Hermanas del Buen Samaritano, calle Joaquín Herrera, calle Brasil, calle Pintada, calle Diputación (2 crosses), calle Chaparil, Bar Torero and the Balcón de Europa.
