It is reported that work on the Detunda-Nerja Caves Botanical Garden is in its final phase and could be finished by the end of May or early June and open to the public within a few months.
The Detunda-Nerja Caves Botanical Garden belongs to the Andalucian Network of Botanical Gardens and Mycology in Natural Areas (RAJBEN), the purpose of which is to collect, preserve and display native flora, particularly endangered species, existing in the different National Parks of Andalucia.
There are currently eleven botanical gardens in the network. This new botanical garden at the Nerja Caves will feature around 200 species of flora, 42 of which are considered to be endangered. These species grow in different areas of the Natural Park, at varying altitudes and with different prevailing temperature and humidity conditions, these having to be replicated in the garden.
