Torrox Council has approved an amendment to the Municipal Ordinance for the Use and Enjoyment of the Beaches which, amongst other things, will prohibit the reserving of spaces on the public beaches.
In an apparent response to suggestions from beach users and municipal employees involved in the maintenance of beaches, one of the major changes to the Municipal Ordinance is to prohibit the setting out of chairs, beach towels etc early in the morning in order to effectively ‘reserve’ the space for later use.
This practice reportedly annoys other beach users and is also said to hinder the cleaning or preparation of the beach by municipal employees. It is proposed to remove any such items from the beach and the owners will have to pay a penalty to get them back.
Another change will be the prohibition of barbecues on the beaches during July and August.
