The Court of Justice of the European Union (TJUE) has imposed a fine of €30 million on Spain for failing to recover illegal tax concessions within the period specified.
The tax concessions, granted under six schemes in Alava, Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya and valued at around €500 million, were declared illegal by the European Commission in 2001.
Spain has recovered 100% of the illegal grants, but the majority were out of time and with delays of up to twelve years.
The Advocate General had proposed a fine of €50 million.
Yet another absolute waste of taxpayer money.
