A 33-year-old National Police officer died at the Regional Hospital in Málaga after being stabbed in the chest by a homeless man he was trying to identify.
The incident occurred in calle Frigiliana in the centre of Málaga at around 19:00 in the evening. The officer was in the process of trying to verify the identification of a man who has a number of outstanding arrest warrants when he was attacked with a knife and stabbed in the chest.
The officer’s colleague drew his service weapon and a number of shots were fired. The alleged aggressor was hit, as was a woman who received a bullet to the shoulder. The alleged aggressor was taken into custody.
The injured officer was rushed to the Regional Hospital in Málaga but failed to recover from his wounds.
