From now until October, the main thoroughfare in Mijas Pueblo, avenida de El Compás, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 10:00 to 14:30 each day.
The horse-drawn carriages and donkey taxi will not be affected by the traffic ban. The idea is to increase security for pedestrians during the summer season, both in terms of traffic volumes and thefts by organised gangs.
According to the police, organised gangs of thieves operate in this area of Mijas Pueblo, stealing from the bags of visitors and residents alike. With the absence of traffic during the peak period of the day, it is thought that the number of such incidents will be reduced due to the fact that people will have more space available in which to walk and it will be more difficult for the thieves to strike.
