The Council is making another attempt to get the responsible department of the Junta de Andalucia to remove the landfill in the area known as the Barranco del viejo.
The land, where rubbish has been dumped for many years, apparently belongs to the General Secretariat for the Integrated Management of the Environment and and Water of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Junta de Andalucia.
The Council, therefore, wants the regional government to clean up the area and prevent further dumping. The previous such request, made four months ago, seems to have fallen upon deaf ears.
Strict demarcation, politics and administrative protocols always seem to rule out logical solutions, such as removing the debris and arguing about who did it or which department administers the land at a later date. The only hope is that if the debris were deemed toxic or a health hazard, someone would actually do something about it.
