According to the Minister for Equality, Health and Social Policies, María José Sánchez, the waters at the 259 beaches in Andalucia are suitable for swimming, this based upon the analysis of water samples from 343 points.
The water samples are collected biweekly throughout the whole year and in the last fortnight have undergone 700 microbiological and 5,250 macroscopic analyses and the results, according to the Minister, mean that the waters at Andalucian beaches are ‘absolutely suitable for swimming’.
Samples of water were also taken from 25 inland bathing areas, with 26 samples being sent for analysis. The results were reportedly the same, all are suitable for swimming.
Lynne says:
How can this be true when Nerja has, quite correctly, had it’s Blue Flag status removed?
Peter Wright says:
The blue flags have,I believe, been withdrawn because the awarding body have changed their policy. They will no longer award flags to any town without a treatment plant, regardless of water quality.
