The National Police and Romanian Police have dismantled an organisation dedicated to sexually exploiting young Romanian girls in El Ejido, Almeria.
As is the usual scenario, the young girls were recruited in Romania with promises of well-paid legal work in Spain. Once in Spain, however, the women were soon informed that there were no jobs to be had and, in order to pay back the travel costs and expenses, they would have to work as prostitutes in various clubs.
If the women showed reluctance, the organisation threatened the women and, in many cases, their families, to ensure obedience. Five women were rescued during the operation, codenamed ‘kebab’.
All the members of the organisation, four Romanians and two Spaniards, were arrested during the operation. Several clubs in El Ejido were also raided.
