The new Rapid Access System using face, ID and fingerprint scanners has been officially inaugurated at Málaga airport, although it has been in place as a pilot scheme since May.
The system cost €822,800 and after full implementation in Málaga airport it will also be installed shortly in Palma de mallorca, Tenerife Sur, Gerona and Alicante. Pilot schemes in Madrid and Barcelona will also be expanded.
The system consists of a terminal where the traveller looks at a screen to have the face scanned, enters their ID or passport and has their fingerprints scanned. If all goes well, the traveller can then proceed.
In the event of an incident of any kind, National Police officers are on hand to intervene.
