The streets of Madrid turned white on Thursday following a violent hailstorm which saw hailstones the size of marbles build up to a depth of several centimetres in many places.
The intense ten-minute storm disrupted traffic on several major roads but there were no reports of injuries.
On Wednesday night there were apparently 21,000 lightning strikes on the peninsular, although this falls short of the record for a single day according to the Met Office.
Twenty-one provinces in nine regions are on alert today, Friday, for heavy storms, both wind and rain.
