The Hospital de Alta Resolución (HAR) in Benalmádena is interrupting surgical activity between July 28th and August 17th, a time when the population of the town rises from 70,000 to 210,000.
Twenty-one rooms used exclusively for inpatient surgery will be closed during this period. The Junta de Andalucia states that the closure is an adaptation to the reality of summer, medical professionals being entitled to a rest just like any others in public centres.
Many Health Centres temporarily close operating theatres during the summer months as well as not opening in the evenings and running a reduced ambulance service.
