The National Police in Málaga have completed the largest investigation into the sale of fake diplomas in Spanish judicial history, detaining 600 people and charging a further one thousand.
The investigation began in 2008 with the arrest of a man in Málaga who forged high quality academic qualifications. The investigation closed with one thousand people being accused of purchasing fake diplomas.
The accused include police officers, nurses, firefighters, lawyers, military personnel, ITV inspectors and bank managers.
In many cases, the diplomas would have been purchased in order to pursue training courses and obtain higher salaries.
