Málaga has today become the seventh city in Spain to have a functioning Metro system, the others being Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Bilbao, Sevilla and Palma.
A host of dignitaries attended the official inauguration of lines 1 and 2 on Wednesday. The current sections, which are 81% of the proposed network, cover a distance of 12 kilometres and have 17 stops. The remainder of the network is expected to be finished and in operation by 2017.
The investment in the Metro so far is approximately €600 million. The current forecast is for 2.5 million users during the remainder of this year, 5 million in 2015 and 8 million by 2016.
