The water supply in thirteen municipalities in the El Condado district of Jaén province has been declared unfit for consumption, a preventative measure following the detection of chemical levels above the allowable limits.
The water contains higher than permitted levels of Trihalomethanes, a chemical that can cause damage to health if consumed in large quantities over a long period.
The water therefore has been deemed unfit for consumption – drinking or for food processing – but can be used for personal hygiene and household cleaning.
The affected towns are: Aldeahermosa, Venta de los Santos, Chiclana de Segura, El Campillo, Camporredondo, Santisteban del Puerto, Navas de San Juan, Castellar, Sorihuela del Guadalimar, Montizón, Arquillos, El Porrosillo and Los Mochuelos.
The water management company is working to implement corrective measures to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
