The forest fire in Mijas, which necessitated the evacuation of 150 families as a precautionaru measure has been stabilised for a second time.
The blaze, which the mayor of Mijas believes was started intentionally, began on Friday and was stabilised for the first time at 01:50 on Saturday morning. However, the fire rekindled in the Cerrado del Aguila area at around 13:15 on Saturday afternoon and was stabilised for a second time at 14:36.
Helicopters, cargo planes, heavy-duty waterbombers and around fifty firefighters and other personnel are still at the scene.
Initial estimates of damage are 600 hectares – the equivalent area of 600 football pitches.
