The forest fire in Mijas, which began on Friday, was declared ‘extinguished’ at 08:00 on Sunday morning.
The blaze began at 19:29 on Friday and brought under control at 01:50 on Saturday morning. However, the fire rekindled at 14:00 on Saturday and was finally brought under control at 16:00 on Saturday.
In total, over 200 personnel, 19 air units and 11 heavy vehicles were involved in fighting the blaze. It is now thought that around 95 hectares of land were destroyed in the blaze, less than initial estimates. An investigation is now being carried out to determine whether the fire was caused intentionally or through negligence.
