The centre of town was heaving on Saturday after the influx of visitors at the start of the holiday month for the Spanish, but surprisingly deserted on Sunday afternoon.
Saturday was not a day to want to get anywhere fast. It was a time for people to amble along three or four abreast – or two abreast and spread out as far as possible – making sudden synchronised stops and making absolutely certain that if there was a snail making its way down the street they would not be disrespectful and overtake it.
In the evening, couldn’t get in to Los Barriles on calle Carabeo it was so full!
Sunday afternoon, on the other hand, was remarkably quiet in the centre of town, apart from a few full retaurant terraces – La Taberna, Meson de Julio, Little Italy, La Dama.
They were queuing at Little Italy and La Dama – seats provided for the purpose. Great value-for-money dining by any standard.
The ice cream shop at the side of the church now does hot dogs! Variety is the spice of life.
I noticed that one of the new beggars in town for the summer, a woman sitting barefoot outside the Sabadell bank, appears to be working on behalf of a fairly well-dressed man who keeps very much in the background and periodically appears to collect the money.
