The deaths of a 90-year-old man and his 87-year-old partner in El Campello, Alicante, are being treated as a possible case of domestic violence, which would make it the 38th case in Spain so far this year.
It was the daughter of the couple who discovered the bodies shortly before midnight on Monday, both lying in a pool of blood and both exhibiting stab wounds.
The door to the apartment had not been forced and there were no signs of robbery, the major hypothesis being that the man killed his partner and then committed suicide. The weapon used, a kitchen knife, was found at the scene.
It is not currently known whether there was a prior history of abuse within the family.
