The Council has unanimously approved two motions relating to healthcare in the region.
The first is a request to Department of Health Management of the Axarquia to reinstate the rehabilitation and traumatology consultations at the Nerja Health Centre which were closed down before the summer of 2013. Bit of a knee-jerk reaction, coming so quickly after the event.
The second motion was to reject the Andalucia Summer Health Plan 2014 as ‘inadequate’, with a request for such plans to keep health services at an optimum level during the summer periods. The Council argues that the current Plan led to a deterioration in welfare, the saturation of Emergency Services, an excessive workload for those professionals still working and increased waiting lists.
The Council calls on the Junta de Andalucia to maintain health services at an optimum level during the summer and to ensure that the majority of professional staff are available for duty.
