A total of 1,400 people had to be evacuated from their homes in Denia and Jávea following the outbreak of a forest fire in the Parque Natural del Montgó.
The fire began on Thursday and forced the evacuation of 1,000 people in Denia as a precautionary measure, although many of these were later allowed to return to their homes. A further 400 people were evacuated from the town of Jávea.
Firemen and members of the Emergency Military Unit, with air support, have been fighting to control the blaze.
