The National Police in Vélez-Málaga is adding helicopter surveillance to try and prevent the thefts of mangoes from farms in the area.
Thefts from farms, produce as well as equipment, is a permanent problem and the number of incidents have risen sharply since the financial crisis began some six years ago.
The helicopter surveillance is in addition to various other measures being undertaken, such as increased patrols, controls on vehicles on rural tracks and community cooperation.
