The Council is proposing to debate a motion at its next plenary session to request the Provincial Delegation of Environment of the Junta de Andalucía to regulate the number of visitors to the rio Chillar and Los Cahorros, a popular hiking route.
The summer results in high numbers of hikers walking along the rio Chillar to the waterfall and the gorge at Los Cahorros.
The Council cites the high risk of fire during the dry summer months, the number of call-outs of the Civil Protection, Guardia Civil and Local Police for various incidents (heat-related problems, sprains, fractures, dizziness and getting lost) and, finally, the amount of discarded rubbish by the end of the season, as the reasons for the request to the regional authority. The recent clean-up day resulted in the collection of 700 kilos of rubbish.
Therefore, the Council wants to see access to this popular route controlled and regulated.
