Following a nine-hour search, a boat carrying 34 men, 11 women, two of them pregnant, 2 children and two babies was located about 30 miles off Almeria and the occupants transferred to port.
The authorities were alerted by a phone call from Morocco saying that the small boat had set out from Alhucemas the previous morning. Several aircraft and boats were involved in the search and the migrants were located at around 21:00 on Monday evening.
They arrived in port at 01:05 where the Red Cross were on hand to offer assistance.
During the searh, a second boat carrying 25 men was located and this was intercepted by the Moroccan authorities and the passengers taken back to Morocco.
