After a long meeting, Málaga taxi drivers have drawn up a schedule of demonstrations which will, amongst other things, see the city without a taxi service on Christmas Eve, New Year and The Kings Day.
The first phase of protests will begin on October 14th with a total stoppage of two hours and this will then be repeated each Tuesday until Christmas.
Taxi drivers in Málaga have long been campaigning for a closed shop whereby only they are allowed to pick up passengers from the airport and they have engaged in numerous strikes and demonstrations in pursuit of their objectives.
In February of this year, a compromise deal was reached with the Junta de Andalucia which, amongst other things, would see a reciprocity system introduced for the Málaga taxi drivers. In short, Málaga taxi drivers would be allowed to pick up passengers in those municipalities already operating a taxi service to Málaga airport.
However, and this is hardly likely to come as a surprise, the Junta de Andalucia appear to have done little, if not even less, towards implementing the agreement. As a result, the taxi drivers have drawn up their schedule of action and, if there is no movement by January, a new series of actions will be planned to include Easter Week.
