Lionel Messi is now within two goals of becoming the all-time La Liga record goalscorer after finding the net in Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Eibar.
The record, 251 goals, is currently held by Telmo Zarra, a prolific scorer for Athletic Bilbao in the 1950’s and 50’s. Zarra also holds the record for Copa del Rey goals with 81 and until 2011 was the holder of the record for most goals in a season, 38.
Xavi opened the scoring in the second half and then Neymar and Messi joined the party to keep Barcelona top of La Liga.
Samuel and Amrabat with a penalty gave Málaga a 1-2 victory over Córdoba, Ghilas pulling one pack for the home side in the dying seconds of injury time.
