National Court judge Eloy Velasco has ordered the former secretary general of the PP in Madrid, Francisco Granados, and businessman David Marjaliza to be detained in custody.
Granados is charged with money laundering, organising criminal activity against the Treasury, influence peddling, bribery, embezzlement, fraud and breach of trust.
Appearing before the judge, Granados denied having any influence on the awarding of public contracts in the Madrid region but did acknowledge that in 1996, while working in investment banking, he did have a Swiss bank account with €320,000 in it.
Granados and Marjaliza were amongst 51 people arrested as part of Operation Púnica, an investigation into corruption in the awarding of public contracts.
