An operation involving the Guardia Civil, German Police and Europol has resulted in the detention of twenty people allegedly involved in drug smuggling between Spain and Germany.
Amongst the detainees is the head of the organisation, a German national, who absconded from a Spanish prison after being granted a weekend pass.
The organisation had members in North Africa who cultivated and prepared the drugs. The drugs were then transported to the Costa del Sol and Almeria on board pleasure boats. Once in Spain, the drugs were hidden in high-end vehicles fitted with double floors and taken to Germany.
During the investigation and raids, police seized 1,100 kilos of hashish, one sailing boat, 44 vehicles, 21 premises and €27,500 in cash.
Money from the drugs operation was laundered through various companies in Spain and Germany.
