Saturday saw the inauguration of the first indoor heated swimming pool in Torre del Mar, a project which has taken three years and cost €3.5 million.
The pool hours will Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 23:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 20:00.
Starting on November 4th, anyone interested in the various activities – splash, swimming for children and adults, aqua aerobics, aqua fitness or free swimming – can register at the pool.
There are two pools. One is 25 metres in length, 16.6 metres wide with eight lanes and a depth of 1.8 metres. The second pool is 16.5 metres in length, 8 metres wide with a maximum depth of 1.2 metres.
Although the pool will begin to operate using municipal staff, the Council intends to privatise the management of the facility with the tender process to begin shortly. The privatisation of the management of the pool has been widely criticised by the opposition PSOE and IU who think it should remain under municipal control.
The intention of the Council is that the concessionaire should, on an adjoining piece of land, arrange for the construction of five paddle tennis courts, a cafeteria and parking area, something which would require an investment of one million euros.
