Fourteen people died and a further 41 were injured on Saturday night when a coach returning from a religious ceremony in Madrid plunged down an embankment in Cieza, Murcia.
All those who died or were injured are from the small town of Bullas in Murcia and had been attending a religious ceremony in honour of Madre Maravillas.
The accident occurred at 23:20 when the vehicle, with 55 people on board, plunged fifteen metres down an embankment near Venta del Olivo. The cause of the accident is under investigation. It is reported that just before the accident the driver began to scream that he could not stop the vehicle as the brakes were not working.
The vehicle, said to be nine or ten years old, had, according to the owners, the bus company J Ruiz, passed its technical inspection two days earlier in preparation for the trip to Madrid.
