After nearly eighteen months of negotiations, Vélez-Málaga Council is finally almost ready to begin the tendering process for the first bilingual private school in the municipality to be located in the Baviera golf complex in Caleta de Vélez.
The idea of the private school first arose in 2006 and a 9,000 square metre plot of land was ceded to the Junta de Andalucia who were going to carry out the project. However, as with so many projects proposed by the Junta, nothing actually happened.
Vélez-Málaga reportedly managed to reclaim the land in March 2013 and the tendering process could possibly begin before the end of the year, although there are still a number of administrative reports still to be completed.
The project, currently expected to cost around €5 million, has apparently attracted the interest of several companies and there even suggestions that it could be a British school covering everything from Infant to Bachillerato.
No timescale has been set and it has not yet even been decided how much to charge for the plot of land or the time period of the concession.
