The mayor of Antequera, Manuel Barón (PP), has called an extraordinary plenary session for Wednesday to urge the Junta de Andalucia not to reclaim the €3.3 million provided for the Palace of Congresses, a project paralysed through a lack of funds due to the crisis.
The Junta de Andalucia has formally requested the return of €3.3 million for the project if the Palace of Congresses is not up and running.
The project began in 2008 with a budget of €9.9 million but just after the start of the works, the builder stated that more money would be required. Modifications were made and just one shell was completed before the works came to a standstill. To finish the building it is reported that another €7 million would be necessary.
The mayor of Antequera believes the situation is yet another part of a sustained campaign of aggression against the municipal Council by the regional authority.
On the one hand, this would seem not to be the first such action by the regional authority against municipalities of a different political hue. On the other hand, a deal is a deal.
