A man is in a critical condition after a brawl involving fans of Atlético Madrid and Deportivo La Coruña near the Vicente Calderón stadium this morning.
The man, in his forties, had suffered a head injury and had been thrown into the river. He was rescued by police frogmen and rushed to Intensive Care. He arrived at the hospital in cardiac arrest and suffering from hypothermia.
The first actions after reviving him were to try and raise his body temperature, a prerequisite to determining what other injuries he may have.
Clashes began at around 09:00, three hours before kick off, and left eleven people injured. Some had knife wounds, others had cuts and bruises.
