The storms which swept through the Canary Islands, with winds reaching 100 kph throughout the islands, have claimed the life of a 53-year-old man on Gran Canaria.
On Friday night in calle Mesa y López, Las Palmas, the man was hit by a metal object dislodged by the wind and was rushed to the Doctor Negrin Hospital with very serious facial and head injuries. Unfortunately, medics were unable to save his life and he died on Saturday afternoon.
The storms brought winds of between 100 and 175 kph which caused disruption to flights and shipping as well as resulting in numerous incidents of falling trees, billboards and walls.
