The former mayor and current Councillor for Public Works in Zurgena, Cándido Trabalón (PA), and seven other former Councillors have been sentenced to 15 months in prison and 9 years disqualification from public office for urban planning violations.
The case relates to an attempt to build 200 homes in the area on non-developable land. The project was prevented from progressing further by actions taken by SEPRONA.
In Fines, the mayor, Rodrigo Sánchez, and his brother have been sentenced to 21 months in prison for constructing a building and a swimming pool on their farm, despite being banned from doing so by SEPRONA and the Ministry of Environment. The PSOE is demanding that the mayor resign.
