As is invariably the case with strikes and protests, there was a slight difference in the figures presented by the two sides, the rail network operator RENFE and the CGT union, as to the level of participation in Friday’s industrial action.
According to RENFE, participation was around 1%. According to the CGT union, participation was around the 70%.
The true figure probably lies somewhere in the middle.
The strike, from 00:00 to 23:00 on Friday, was once again about plans to privatise some services. The union criticised what it called ‘abusive’ minimum service levels set by the Ministry of Development for the day of the strike.
