Heavy rains, wind and a violent hailstorm hit Almeria on Monday, causing the destruction of 50 greenhouses and flooding 400 hectares of crops.
The storm, occurring in mid-harvest, saw around 60 litres of water per square metre fall in just two hours. The hailstorm caused the collapse of 50 greenhouses and the rains flooded around 400 hectares of land, leaving farmers devastated.
Initial estimates suggest losses of between 15 and 20 million euros.
Rain and ice caused the temporary closure of thirteen roads and many people had to be rescued from their vehicles and from the greenhouses.
