Ray Compton was reported to the council by a by-passer after being spotted standing on a chair at his restaurant to hang up fairy lights.
Four days later Mr Compton received a call from an environmental health officer who announced that the case was under investigation and gave him a ticking off, telling him that he should have used the correct climbing apparatus, namely an ‘aluminium construction secured at three points’, which is apparently council-speak for a ladder.
Fortunately for the taxpayer, the Council has decided not to waste further funds pursuing the matter.
